House-Sitting Concerns

Being a person that is quite concerned about her reputation, I take great care when others entrust their belongings to me. A house full of stuff is a big responsibility.
Typical tasks include:
- Watering plants
- Cleaning
- Mowing the lawn
- Locking up
Basically, I am to treat the house as if it was my own. No big deal, right? I don't mind. It's kind of fun living on my own for a while.

The south end of Regina is kind of sketchy, and that is where I am house-sitting.

Last night a neighbour came over and talked to the girl staying here with me and said that some people have been camping out in the alley behind our yard...He also told us that if we heard anything happening in the backyard during the night we should call him. I'm hoping that we won't have to call.

If that isn't enough, one of the next-door neighbours is a supposed drug dealer. I saw him outside all tattooed and ripped when I came to get my list of duties before the homeowners left for vacation. They warned me about him and also told me that his toothless uncle lives in the basement. Hmmm...interesting.
Well, I met the toothless uncle one day and he informed me of his successful punching encounter with a late-night party guest at his house. He also apologized on his nephew's behalf for the noisy partying. Luckily I hadn't known about it.

So far nothing too weird or crazy has happened, but I'm glad that I normally live in the east end. My neighbourhood is much less sketchy. :)

Money, Money, Money!

Money is one of the most frustrating things ever.
It is both a need and a want.
It also makes people crazy!
I can't figure out half of the time where my money is going, but when I look back on my spending, I don't regret any of it.
Still, when one is trying to save for University and pay off a car, things get tricky.
I was privileged to have my Dad pay for my Bible College years but now I'm on my own and feeling the pressure.
I'm privileged to be allowed to live at home without having to pay rent.
I probably could survive on my own...I would have to postpone my education by a few years though.
But in reality, I'm not in any kind of financial trouble.
I have the Lord to thank for everything that He has given me.
I can say that it is both a blessing and a curse to have enough money to have some of what you want along with everything you need.
Money is a dangerous idol, not to mention all of the things that it can buy.
I think it is about time to read "The Treasure Principle" by Randy Alcorn once again.
It is a great book to help people gain a proper perspective of money. :)

Kneeboarding

is painful...

I watched this little girl, like 10 years old, tackle a kneeboard like it was no big deal. She made it look so easy! She started out by laying on her stomach while holding the rope in her hands. Then the boat took off and she was up on that thing within 30 seconds, riding it like a pro.

Then my Dad took a turn and showed us all up real good.

Then, with my Dad's help to get them up, my three youngest siblings each took a turn on the board. First Daniel, also 10. Then Hannah, 15. Then Landon, 13.

All did fairly well on the kneeboard, except Hannah wiped out pretty bad when the tip of the board caught a wave. She was done for the day...and maybe for life. I don't think one wants to jump in and try again too quickly after slapping the water hard with their face. Just saying...

Oh yeah, one more person tried out the kneeboard.

Me.

I wanted to get up on my own without my Dad's help. How hard could it be? A 10-year-old girl did it! Well, I was dragged all around on my belly for quite some time, enduring the harsh laughter coming at me from the boat. Ok, it was fun :). Then my Dad helped me up...

It was crazy! I thought I was going to die! It was fun until I realized that I had absolutely no control over the thing. The only thing I could do is move slightly from side to side. Leaning back to keep the nose out of the water was not happening as easily as I thought it was supposed to. A couple of waves hit and all of the sudden my face was in the water and in no time I had done a front flip while completely submerged in the lake.

My neck has been hurting for two days now :P.

I am the kind of person that has to be good at something before I'll give it another try.

Especially if it involves potential pain.

Oh Brothers...

Just listening to my two youngest brothers, Landon (13) and Daniel (9), singing "When a Man Loves a Woman," at the top of their lungs. Nuff said...
